Our story

In 1999, a small group of people at Calvin Presbyterian Church of Corvallis dedicated itself to prayer and to learning the needs of the Division Street neighborhood. It was our desire to reach out in friendship to those living close to our church building. A duplex donated to the foundation and located at the very heart of the neighborhood soon became the hub for our activities.

We impact the neighborhood by providing an encouraging place to spend time and to learn, to grow food and flowers, to nourish friendships and to draw closer to God. We invite you to join us as we reach across cultural and economic barriers to help build God’s kingdom here and now.

Statement of Faith

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD.” —Isaiah 61:1

Scripture teaches that God has a special concern for the poor and vulnerable. The prophets denounced injustice toward the poor as a lack of fidelity to God. Jesus began his public ministry by quoting this scripture. God calls us to embrace this preferential option for the poor, to show it in our lives, and to work to have it shape public policies and priorities.

Acorn Foundation believes that a fundamental measure of our Christian commitment is how we care for those outside the cultural mainstream. It is our goal to demonstrate God’s love for people in all that we do and say, and especially for our Latino neighbors in Corvallis.

Acorn Center

Our neighborhood facility is a three-bedroom duplex located at the strategic heart of the Division Street neighborhood—the intersection of Division and Hobart Ave. The facility includes classrooms, a large meeting room, kitchen, office, community garden, and outdoor play area for children.

Mission

Acorn Foundation demonstrates in word and action God's love for those in our community who are economically disadvantaged and culturally marginalized. We provide instruction, training and advocacy to Latino immigrants, and serve as a community center for the neighborhood. We have a close collaboration with Iglesia Emanuel and Calvin Presbyterian Church.
